We have a private area where you can talk about your medicines or general healthcare. Ask to speak to the pharmacist on duty. Our care for you goes beyond simply selling you medicines.

We can supply medical appliances and offer information and clinical advice if you use any of the following appliances: certain catheter appliances, tracheostomy and laryngectomy appliances; anal irrigation systems; a vacuum pump or constrictor ring for erectile dysfunction, wound drainage pouches, incontinence appliances and stoma appliances. We can also deliver it to your home at a convenient time to you.

Do not hoard medicines - it can be fatal. Return unwanted medicines to us for safe destruction. Don't put them in the bin or down the toilet.

If you have had sex without using contraception, or you think your contraception has failed, you may be able to use Emergency Hormonal Contraception (EHC).

If you receive prescriptions from us and appear to suffer from any of the following long term conditions, we are able to offer advice on achieving a healthy lifestyle: • Diabetes • Be at risk of Coronary Heart Disease (especially those with high blood pressure) • Patients who want to give up smoking • Patients who want to lose weight

We can advise on medical requirements for travellers, including anti-malaria treatments, avoiding sunburn and tummy upsets.

We offer a special free advisory service available from Goulds Chemist for patients having difficulty with their medicines or requiring more detailed advice. This is particularly valuable for those people taking a lot of medication and may not know why or how they should be taking them. If you have any questions please ask our pharmacist.

This is an opportunity for our pharmacist to discuss and review the medicines you are taking to ensure you are using them correctly and getting the maximum benefit. We will explain clearly and simply, without any medical jargon, what they are for and the conditions they treat and identify any possible side effects that you may be experiencing. We will listen to you and any problems you are having with your medicines, provide advice and support and if necessary contact your Doctor to discuss any issues that arise from our conversation.

An MUR can help:

• improve your understanding of the medicines you are taking;
• highlight problematic side effects and propose solutions where appropriate;
• improve adherence
• reduce medicines wastage, usually by helping you only order the medicines you need

Our pharmacist may be able to conduct an MUR over the telephone or for eligible patient

The pharmacy will help support independent living in groups of vulnerable people, or those with special needs, who do not fall within the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 criteria. We can assess your knowledge and use of your medicines and the appropriate level or kind of support, if any, required to help you take the medicines as intended. If support is necessary, the pharmacist will agree with you or your carer the appropriate level or kind of support. We can also provide advice, support and assistance to you with a view to improving your knowledge and use of medicines and compliance, or we may need to refer you to another health or social care professional. Pharmacy support could include compliance charts, screw top closures, medication administration record (MAR) charts, labelling medicines in large fonts and multi-compartment compliance aids.

We can collect your prescription from any Walton on Thames surgery on your behalf so that your medicine is ready to pick up when you want it. Please ask the pharmacist about this service.
